TC5x w/ RFD Sled & MC3390r/EM45 RFID Devices

The steps for staging Backbone w/ RFID (this include Item tracking and Asset tracking) on mobile devices differs only in the terms of the specific device firmware needed.  They will use the same APK. Device firmware can be downloaded from the Zebra Support portal.

Caveats:

-8/13/2025 - Dev now requires Google play, removing all manual apk installation and 123RFID steps.  Updating guidance to firmware of latest Android 14 build for all devices.  Updating RFD sled firmware guidance.

-As of 2/9/2023 -  the TC52AX must have the 8 pin connector on the rear to interface with the RFD40/90 and the  device should have  a build of at least 11-42-18.00-RG-U00 (newer is fine)

-As of 2/9/2024 - the MC3390R needs a minimum build of 2-52-21.00-0G-U03-STD

-As of 12/7/2023 - the RFD40 & RFD 90 (only used with the TC52AX) must have a firmware of at least SAAFKS00-006-R01E0

RFD Sled Firmware:  Minimum SAAFKS00-009-R00 (due to bugs in previous release)

TC5x / EM45 / MC3300x minimum firmware: Latest Android 14

• After verifying minimum firmware on device and RFD, proceed to the steps below

• On either the MC33 or the EM45, the 'gun trigger' needs mapped to 'Button_16'.  This allows the gun trigger to scan for RFID only.

  • Go to settings on the device

  • Select 'Key Programmer'

  • Select 'REAR_Button' or 'GUN_TRIGGER' or 'GRIP_TRIGGER' depending on the device

    • Select Button_16 for mapping

    • Exit settings.
